Today's walk: Faulds Brow (Wainwright's Outlying Fells p210)

the pond on Caldbeck village green looking south

the lane onto Caldbeck Common with Carrock Fell and High Pike behind

zooming in on High Pike ..

.. and on Carrock Fell with Caldbeck village below

crater on Faulds Brow now filled with a pool; 2 masts in background

looking back east to the distant Pennines

shooting butt on Faulds Brow nearly disappeared - which would please AW

Carrock Fell and High Pike from Faulds Brow

Paddigill with Carrock Fell in the distance

looking up the Roughten Gill valley to Knott with patches of snow

the very minor road down to Whelpo

further down the road with Whelpo ahead

the bridge over Whelpo Beck

if this path had existed in AW's day he would certainly have used it ..

.. in preference to the busy B road here seen across Whelpo Beck

looking back along the new path on the north bank of Whelpo Beck

waterfall above the Howk gorge

looking back at the new path descending beside the Howk gorge

approaching the Howk bobbin mill below the gorge

the remains of Howk bobbin mill

17th century mill seen across Whelpo Beck

approaching one of the bridges over Whelpo Beck

the 17th century mill from the bridge

compare this with AW's picture of the mill - it has now been converted to houses

in Caldbeck village
