Gosforth church and cross

another look at the enigmatic cross

the fork off the Wasdale road into Blengdale

the long private road into Blengdale Forest

entering the forest

the River Bleng from the first bridge

in Blengdale Forest

bee on a thistle ..

.. and a butterfly

it would be easy to miss this left fork ..

.. to the footbridge over the River Bleng

the old forest track on the west of the river

leaving Blengdale Forest

Ponsonby Fell from the track ..

.. and from the ford and gate where the track is left

looking back to Scalderskew from the ascent of Ponsonby Fell

Haycock, Scoat Fell, Seatallan and the Scafells from the ascent

Ponsonby Fell summit looking east to Seatallan, the Scafells and the Wastwater screes

Black Combe and Morecambe Bay from Ponsonby Fell

zooming in on Black Combe ..

.. and on Haycock, Scoat Fell and Seatallan

AW says there is little cause to linger here but I enjoyed a leisurely lunch with this view

descending from Ponsonby Fell towards Sellafield

looking north to Cold Fell with Dent behind

important to take this gate on the right to join a track ..

.. leading down past Laverock How

Black Combe from the road below Scargreen

AW says there is no path back to Gosforth but here is a signed path ..

.. little trodden alongside this hedge ..

.. and through an awkward gate at Ponsonby Old Hall

an encouraging waymark and bridge ..

.. but the next stile is hard to find and almost inaccessible

another bridge ..

.. albeit almost overgrown ..

.. and emerging from the very muddy track at Middle Boonwood a sign confirms the path

along the road a bit a better path descends from Wind Hall - Black Combe ahead

Gosforth from the Holy Well

an unexpected finish through a fancy garden into Gosforth
