the start of the path from Whitestone Caravan Park

the ridge wall is up there somewhere

looking back down the new bypass is just visible through the mist

the highest point of Newton Fell seen over the wall

ghastly going alongside the wall - this walk is best done in winter

the mist is starting to clear as I reach a small top

White Stone from a boggy pool at its foot

approaching the top of White Stone

the highest rock on White Stone

a lower rock catching the day's shortlived sunshine

Ayside and the new bypass from the largest rock outcrop on the hill ..

.. and again from the other side of this large rock

somebody enjoys the head high bracken!

a path at last leading back down to the caravan park

looking back up the path with Ayside below

lower down the path, the only sensible way onto the hill

the signed start of the path

this was the busy A590 until the recent opening of the bypass

High Newton is now a quiet backwater

because I walked on the road I attempted the next walk in reverse
this is the track above Eller How

looking over the Winster Valley to Whitbarrow from near the top of Dixon Heights

the ruined tower on top of Dixon Heights

there were 4 semi-wild ponies at the top

Lindale from the slopes of Dixon Heights

just beyond this gap, now gated, I was turned back by the farmer and her 2 dogs ..

.. and directed to this track which joins the upward track ..

.. and emerges at Eller How

Dixon Heights from the A590 which also blocks AW's ascent route
