Today's walk: Stainton Pike (Wainwright's Outlying Fells p150)

no parking at all now on the verge at the start of the path

poor parking by the phone box near the road junction

the A595 now very uninviting for walking so I cheated by being picked up at Dyke

Stainton Tower from the foot of the minor road

the start of the track to Grange Farm with Stainton Pike ahead

the ancient enclosure looking to the sea ..

.. and looking to Stainton Pike

the lowest falls on the approach to Rowantree Gorge

looking down the gorge from below Rowantree Force

Rowantree Force with Stainton Pike beyond

a close up of the upper falls

looking down the gorge from above Rowantree Force

an easy crossing point above the falls

Stainton Pike could now be approached direct as there is no barbed wire ..

.. and no gate as one approaches Holehouse Tarn

Stainton Pike summit cairn

looking back to Holehouse Tarn with Whitfell beyond

Harter Fell from Stainton Pike

the Esk estuary from Stainton Pike
