Today's walk: Dunnerdale Fells (Wainwright's Outlying Fells p132)

much better parking at the end of this walk than the start so the road was done first

the start of the track looks quite discouraging ..

.. but within a few yards it becomes a splendid grassy track ..

.. leading up the side of this dry ravine

a dead tree beside the track ..

.. and some blue sky for a change

looking back down the ravine into the Duddon Valley

a conspicuous holly tree noted by AW

looking back towards the holly tree

the most conspicuous hill ahead with a large cairn so I scramble pleasantly to its summit

sunshine over the fields towards Morecambe Bay

but this just doesn't look like AW's summit picture ..

.. could this hill further west be the one I should have climbed?

a vague track leads across to it ..

.. and this looks just like the drawing in the book

view north from this top ..

.. and a view down into the Duddon Valley

the wrong top from the right one

on the very rough way down from this hill

the two hills from the track - AW's hill is on the left and is actually higher

the correct hill and the very rough going thereto from the bouldery tarn

the descent path into the Duddon Valley

AW's Dunnerdale Fell from the descent path

the River Duddon looking towards the ascent ravine
