today's walk: Kirkby Moor (previously listed as Lowick High Common)

the track onto the moor through abandoned quarries to the north

the gate onto the open fell

looking north to the Coniston fells

part of the quarry looking north to the Coniston Fells and Coniston Water

zooming in on the head of Coniston Water ..

.. and on Dow Crag, Coniston Old Man and Wetherlam

the Coniston fells from the highest wind turbine on Kirkby Moor

looking southeast to Hoad Hill above Ulverston from Kirkby Moor summit

more turbines westwards with Black Combe beyond

zooming in on the Duddon estuary

a disappointing "stone circle" southwest of the summit

panoramic shot of the Duddon estuary from the return route

my return path ran above Kirkby Slate Quarries

looking over the quarries to the Lakeland fells ..

.. and west to Black Combe

the path has been diverted east of these pools, here looking west to Whitfell ..

.. and here back south over the vast quarry

looking north to the high fells from the return path ..

.. as it circles around the northern slopes of the moor

broom and another glimpse of the Coniston fells
